Returned from the Peak

Several Peakers, of this place and vicinity have returned. Among others F. B. Reno, who came in advance of his company, all but one, (W. Hamilton, who has gone on to California, in company with B. Owen, Jno. Owen and Jess Burkey,) Jno. Dillin and J. Dain together with Craven V. Gardner, will be here in a few days. Mr. Reno says they were in the mines two weeks, worked four days and made 15 cts. to the man, or thereabouts. Every one is coming back, he says, except those going on to California--it is estimated there will be from 25,000 to 30,000 go on.
There were 4,000 or 5,000 Indians at the mines when he left, they appeared to be friendly.
Mr. R. brought home $5 of scale gold. He says he passed 1,000 wagons between Kearney and Council Bluffs.--He thinks it the grandest "sell" ever got up.
Mr. R. informs us that threats were made to shoot, hang &s. those that were supposed to be instrumental in bringing so vast a crowd of emigrants as were on the plains and at the mines, but on second thoughts the better minded concluded not to go into the operation.--The only man killed that he heard of, was the Express master, at Denver City, and he was shot by his clerk, in the office, there being a private feud between them.
J. McT. Gibson's company is reported to have gone on to California.
The company of Geo. Black also got in a few days since, all except Dr. H. H. Black and R. Carter, who have gone on. B.'s company had painted on their wagon cover a large horn, with the team going in at the large end, the boys exclaiming, "Now for the Peak," while at the small end the men were creeping out, grunting "the Peak in a horn."--Pretty good device.
The Cripe company have also got back.
R. Sparrow and J. Clements, who went with the Mead team, have got back.--The Meads continued on.
One and all affirm that they never had better health.
