Fred Wesley Hoppe

Fred Wesley Hoppe was born April 28, 1934 in Phillips County, Kansas, the second son of Fred Irving and Emma Viola (Outhet) Hoppe. He went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 16, 2015 from the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska at the age of 80.

He was raised on the family farm and attended the one-room Plum Creek Country School through the 7th grade and then went to school in Agra, Kansas, graduating with the Agra High School class of 1952. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953, serving in Korea, and was honorably discharged on March 16, 1955.

Fred returned to Phillips County and his love of farming, living within 2 miles of where he was born. On September 28, 1955, Fred married Twila Mae Bradley. Daughter Lisa Elaine joined the family on July 4, 1962 and son, Richard Wayne joined them on June 15, 1964. Fred and Twila later divorced.

Fred married Alice Dell Stanek in 1992 and they later divorced.

On August 18, 2010, Fred was united in marriage to Artyce Loraine Forell in Phillipsburg. The couple happily shared their lives together, embracing their combined families and all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Fred was a member of the American Legion, National Rifle Association, Phillips County Farm Bureau, PCCHC Group, and the Agra United Methodist Church. He served on the Rangeland Coop board for several years and was a regular donor for the Red Cross Blood drive. He was an active member of his community and always generous with his time and talents (remember all the pies & ice cream?).

Fred treasured all of his kids and grandkids and never hesitated to express his pride at their accomplishments. He was a loyal and trusted friend, a helpful and caring neighbor, and a loving husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather who will be sadly missed.

His parents, Fred & Emma, and a niece, Coleen, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Artyce, of their home in Phillipsburg; his daughter, Lisa Dalme & husband, George of Minneapolis, KS; his son, Richard Hoppe of Belton, MO; brother, Ed Hoppe of Agra, KS; sisters, Marge Dahlgran of Shenandoah, IA and Marie Powell & husband, Virgil of Bull Head City, AZ; along with 8 stepchildren; 3 grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, 16 step great-grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild.

Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Gary Davison officiating. A private inurnment will follow in the Hoppe Cemetery, Phillips County.

Friends may sign the book on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, where the family will receive friends for visitation that evening from 6:30 p.m. unitl 8:00 p.m. for visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Agra or Glade United Methodist Churches.
