Travelled twelve miles. Passed Newton at three o'clock, it is the county seat of Jasper County, it is located on a high prairie and contains about fifteen hundred inhabitants. Crossed Elk Creek and South Skunk River. I got one bottle of whisky in Newton for medicine. We happened all to get sick then.
