August 17th, 1859 -- Drove all day steady on about ten miles, heavy sand, steep hills and deep dust. We have not experienced a worse days drive than this since we started. The cattle appear more fagged and tired than they have for a long time. Feed however still continues good.Powell
Travelled 16 miles. The sand is getting more and poor grass and water.
