July 25th, 1859 -- Started very early on as good a road as we found at any time on the Platte, made about 15 miles before we reached water and that was too brackish for use. The cattle drank a little of it. We then struck out again and travelled another 15 miles before we could get any water at all. We then found an excellent spring and plenty of company. It was after dark before we got in, consequently after supper the boys couldn't find the cattle, and the general impression was that they were stolen, when lo in the morning they were all laying down about 100 yards from camp.

Powell
Travelled 27 miles. 15 miles this forenoon without water to the Blue Springs. They are warm and brackish, some 50 in number. Water enough runs from them to turn a mill. Then 12 miles this afternoon to a good spring.
